Staying Busy as a Bee

I have been staying extremely busy as of late! As our wedding approaches (53 days and counting) I have discovered that there aren't enough hours in the day! Here is a quick recap of what has been done in the last week or so-

  • Groomsmen gifts have been ordered- 400 piece poker sets from Poker N' Stuff

  • Bridesmaid dresses have been picked up and so far two have been delivered (3 more will be delivered after this coming weekend). In regards to my last post where I was worried about how they would look- I LOVE them!!! And the shoes go great with the dress! RELIEF!!!!
  • I have created our guest book thanks to Shutterfly. I am thrilled with the end result!
  • Fortune cookies for the dessert bar have been ordered from Fancy Fortune Cookies.

  • Met with David, from McNamara, to go over the centerpieces. David was working on a wedding that had a lot of the same flowers that we are using so he had me stop by to see if I liked the overall look. There were only a few things that I didn't care for and those were things that were specific to this arrangement but wouldn't be in my arrangements. So I was thrilled with the overall impact that the centerpieces made!
  • Jessica Lynn from Penned & Pretty called me this morning to let me know that my envelopes are done! YAY!!!! I cannot wait to get these pretty envelopes in my possession! So, definitely stay tuned because I will be posting pictures of Jessica's amazing work!
  • April Foster from April Foster Events emailed me to let me know that my invitations would be ready for pick up on Thursday! Sooooooo excited!!!! As if getting my invitations isn't phenomenal enough I also get to meet April at Starbucks (addicted). Also, April Foster Events has been nominated for the Indy A-List to compete for the title of Best Indianapolis Wedding Planner. So, if you have time go on over and vote here for April!
  • Today I am meeting with the coordinator at the Scottish Rite Cathedral and the event planner for Thomas Caterers of Distinction to look at table linens and place settings. I am excited but I also dread seeing how ridiculously over priced these linens will be. C'est la vie!
  • While spending the 4th of July with future hubby's family I will be putting invitations together and liners in envelopes so that I can hopefully get everything mailed out by Monday, July 6. Fingers crossed!!!! After that I will be able to show you our invites!
Non-wedding: remember when I talked about Patio Project 2009?!? (If not, go to this post) Phase 1 and Phase 2 are completely done and look fantastic! Phase 3 is almost complete. We only have two more layers of brick and then the caps to complete the wall. After the wall is complete we will pour a concrete pad for the grill, create a wall around the grill, and fill the sitting wall with dirt (that is going to be a TON of dirt). Sounds like a lot but compared to what has already been completed it is child's play (well, except the cement mixing part....that could be messy)! Once our home DIY project is complete I will definitely be posting some before and after pictures! :-)

Have a great Tuesday!!!! I am off to accomplish more tasks!

Deliveries and Pick Up

Our porch has been re designated as a shelter for packages. We have been receiving deliveries daily! I love coming home to find something sitting on our front porch....definitely a great feeling!

Today it is my turn to play UPS/Fedex delivery person. I received a call from Brides by Demetrios letting me know that my bridesmaid dresses are in!!!! FINALLY!!! So after work I will be heading up to the north side to pick up all 8 bridesmaid dresses and hopefully a flower girl dress (there could be some drama if that flower girl dress is not in). Over the next couple of weeks I will be playing delivery driver and dropping these lovely dresses off to their owner's.

When I pick up the BM dresses I will also search high and low for a hair piece based on the votes that I received in this post. So fingers crossed! Wish me luck! :-)

I posted about my bridesmaids dresses here, here, and here. But here is a picture of the dress only the colors will be reversed- taupe dress, champagne sash.

I can't believe I am saying this but I am almost more nervous about seeing the BM dresses than I was when I saw my dress for the first fitting. What if they look ugly?!? What if the champagne and taupe look hideous? What if the dress is hideous?!? Why do I do this to myself?!? lol
Okay, I just need to breathe and chill out!!!

Have a great Thursday! One more day until the weekend!

Gifts and Licenses

Sorry about the hiatus! We have had some craziness going on in our household (think- AC not working, sister's basement flooding, dog rushed to the vet for pneumonia/flu bug, etc). But I am back!!!!

Thanks for all of your comments and votes on my post about the hair piece in this post! Your input and votes helped me make my decision. Now I just need to find something. :-)

If you are my mother or my future mother in law, go to the top of this website and click on the 'X'. Do no read the remainder of this post please! :-)

That being said, I need your help once again. We are at the 60 day mark which means I need to get some more items checked off the good ol' list! One of those items is our gift to our parents. We have been racking our brains and have nothing. I have been searching online but have yet to see anything that really catches my eye. Do you ladies have any suggestions?!? I would definitely love to hear what you have to say!

In 60 days I will hopefully capture a picture like the one above with my husband! :-)

Lastly, I get to check one other item off of my 'to-do' list! We are getting our marriage license today!!!! YAY!!! I called and according to their schedule we are exactly 60 days out so we have until midnight the day of our wedding to get the marriage license signed otherwise it will be voided. Future Hubby's schedule is changing so he won't be able to go any other time so we have to get it done today. And if that license isn't signed before midnight on the 22nd there will be much bigger issues! lol

Have a great day!!!!

Hair Love

Here is my hair inspiration for my first hair trial on July 17th (see prior post):

By having an August wedding I want my hair all up. I want my hair to be curled and loosely pulled back, like the pictures above. For the wedding ceremony I will only have a cathedral length veil in my hair. After the wedding I will obviously be ditching the veil but I want to do something fun yet elegant. My wedding dress is princess ball gown style so I want it to match the elegance of my dress.

So ladies, I ask you for help! Here are two ideas I have come up with:

Meet Vintage Rhinestone Hair Comb by Romancing TheBling (on Etsy)
This piece is elegance personified! I probably would not purchase this exact piece ($165 price tag....ouch) but I would try to find something similar!

And now I would like to introduce you to Victoria by LoBoheme (on Etsy)
Hello fun and elegance!!!! I love the vintage feather pieces! My only concern is- am I going to look back on this in 20 years and wonder what the hell I was thinking? Are my kids going to laugh at my at my choice even though it was fashionable when I did it?!?

What are your thoughts?!? I have set up a poll to the right so please vote or leave me a post letting me know your thoughts! What are you doing/did for your wedding?!? Are you sporting a piece other than your veil?

The Great Limo Debacle!!!!

It's just a limo, right?!? Apparently the answer is wrong in my scenario.

I have been putting off the limo search because I had no referrals and it just wasn't a priority on my list at the time. But I found my dream limos on Thursday!!!! Yes, I said limos plural because we will need two limos thanks to our large bridal party size (18 counting us, 20 if you include the ring bearer and flower girl). Here are the two limos that I booked on Thursday:
Nice, right?!? I can't tell you how excited I was at the thought of capturing some great pictures with these beauties!!!

Fast forward a day- my dad walks into my office to ask me if I had read any reviews of the company. Gasp! Yes, I booked without researching reviews but look how pretty these limos are....you can't blame a girl! What my dad said did make sense so I started searching, just in case. I couldn't find any online reviews so I turned to the good ol' BBB (Better Business Bureau). The company that I booked the limos through wasn't BBB Accredited. Not a huge deal since most companies aren't but the next bit of information I couldn't swallow...........they received an F rating! The reasonings behind their F rating was something that I could not look past. Like my dad said, the last thing you need is for a limo driver not to show on your wedding day. So, that night I called the owner and vaguely said that 'unforeseen circumstances' had arisen and that I would need to cancel the limos (less than one day from when I had booked them). I am pretty sure that he took my 'unforeseen circumstances' as 'the wedding is off, don't ask questions.' I was able to get the deposit back without putting up a fight.....thank goodness!!!

Our limo is now booked through Carey Limousine, a national/international limo company. I was able to get a great deal and even though it may not be pretty it definitely will be economical and appeal to the boys. May I present you with our 23 passenger party bus-
Le Sigh, it definitely is no Rolls or Excalibur but here are the pros that I keep telling myself:
  • It will hold the entire bridal party with plenty of room
  • With the extra room we will be able to fit a cooler of 'beverages' in the back
  • It has seat belts so my 5 year old niece and 1 year old nephew can ride with us if they want
  • It will be MUCH easier for the girls to get in and out of since they have long dresses
  • It will be a God-send for me to get in and out of since I have a huge, puffy ball grown dress
  • The company is VERY reliable and received an A rating on the BBB
  • It will be half the cost of the original two limos since we are going with a bus that can accommodate everyone
Overall, the pros are definitely worth the switch! So here are the lessons learned:

Lesson #1 - BBB is your best friend! Utilize it!!! You will get the unbiased opinion of the company.

Lesson #2 - Do your research! Don't get excited and jump into something without doing a little research.

Lesson #3 - Be open to other means of transportation. You don't have to go with the standard Lincoln limo. In my situation, a bus will work much better due to the size of our bridal party!

Lesson #4 - Don't be afraid to wheel and deal! A lot of these companies are willing to wheel and deal a little bit thanks to the current economical situation. Limos are viewed as a luxury, not a necessity.

Lesson #5 - You don't have to have an antique car for great pictures. The pictures will be as memorable as you make them! If a photographer can turn a broken down, ugly bus into a masterpiece than you can make any vehicle work to your advantage!

And here I thought it was a just a limo. Boy was I wrong! Haha! Good luck to anyone else out there who is currently booking a limo or any vendor for that matter!

Have a great rest of your Monday!

Pretty Productive.....

Apparently I just needed to have that heart-to-heart with my checklist because things are going much better! I was able to get quite a few things checked off the list over the weekend (not as much as I would like but beggars can't be choosers and somethings were out of my control).

So, here we go-
  • Bridesmaid gifts - they are done! I am so happy and would love to share but that will have to wait until after the wedding (sorry Jessica). I went over to my mom's house and we bulldozed that project!
  • Card box - can I just say that I have the craftiest mother ever?!? My mom created my card box for me! It is so pretty and I am so mad at myself for not taking a picture. So, picture to come later.
  • Tuxedos - OH MY GOSH!!! This definitely had me stressing because every time I mentioned the tuxedos my lovely future hubby insisted that we had plenty of time. Well, with 70 days left I did not quite see what he was talking about. But now I can breathe easy knowing that the tuxedo's have been picked out!
  • Wedding Bands - my wedding band is done and is absolutely GORGEOUS!!! I know, so modest....hehe. There was a slight issue on future hubby's band so it was sent back, or so we thought. Turns out they have scrapped future hubby's ring and are starting over from scratch. They have assured me that it will be done ASAP.
  • Limo - booking the limo today! I actually booked two limos last Thursday but canceled them on Friday......I will definitely be sharing that story! Boy did I learn a lesson! But I have selected the limo company and will be calling as soon as they open this morning to book! :-)
And of course, a pretty picture to make you smile on Monday!

How was your weekend? What fun things did you do?

Have a great Monday!!!!

The Never Ending List.....

Dear Wedding To-Do List,

I have been diligently working on accomplishing my wedding chores, er....tasks, so that I can check items off of you. I should feel relieved that I am getting so much accomplished yet I don't. To my amazement, every time I look at you it appears that you have doubled! How can this be?!? Why would you do this to me?!? I take you with me everywhere I go!

I now realize that we have become very close during the last year or so. I take you everywhere and am constantly doting on you. You have grown accustom to my constant attention. You are afraid that I will check all the items off of you and no longer have a need for you. I promise that there will be a few items on you that I will need for the wedding day and the honeymoon! You will probably go on the honeymoon with us since you contain information regarding our vacation.

If I keep this promise will you at least let me check the remaining pre-wedding items off of you so that I can relax and enjoy the final weeks before the wedding?!? And who knows, if you let me get everything accomplished I might even add a few items to you! ;-)

Yours Truly,

A Check List Frustrated Bride

Bachelorette Party Recap

My friends threw the best bachelorette party a girl could ask for! The location and events of the evening were kept a secret from me and I loved it. The evening was full of laughs and great times!

So, do you want to know where us crazy girls ended up?!?

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY!!!!

Warning: I have a bunch of pictures to show you. Don't worry, these are the pictures that my mom took so they are all appropriate! Now the pictures that my friends took?!? Those may have to be censored once I get them.....lol.
This tape was all over the doors of our hotel rooms! Apparently before I got there some mischievous little boys decided that it would be fun to knock on the doors and then run down the hall way to hide. Boys will be boys!
My best friend and MOH, P, made this awesome spread for us to snack on when we arrived. Cocktails and appetizers! YUM! You can be sure that I had at least half a dozen chocolate covered strawberries! :-)Those girls went all out in decorating the room!
This was my throne! haha!
These were little pins that P's mom bought for each girl to wear. They were so cute!
These were the fun cocktail napkins! We played the game but it was a tad bit awkward announcing my answers in front of my mom (example: What time of day is the bachelorette's favorite time to make whoopie? Lovely)
I was very excited when I started opening my presents and discovered a 'Bun Pincher!'
Watch out Louisville!!! Here comes trouble!!!!
Ohh La La! P's mom sent these masks so we had to get a picture with them before we went out. This was right after our shot of tequila (amazing tequila from Mexico).
Dinner was amazing!
Crazy Girls before the 'show'! And no, it was not a strip club!
Me with my 'bun pincher' in front of the stage. (sorry, I couldn't get this to rotate)
Everywhere we went in downtown Louisville we would see these horse statues. I really wanted to climb onto one that was standing (this was obviously after several drinks) but thankfully I settled for a horse that was sitting. Much safer!
And here we are before we ventured off to Fourth Street Live

The night was perfect! I was surprised the entire night! At dinner the girls made me guess what the plans for the evening were and I struck out. I had no idea! Looking back on the night I wouldn't have changed a single thing. My friends truly are the greatest! Thanks ladies!

If you are ever in Louisville I HIGHLY recommend venturing over to Fourth Street Live. The venue is located in historical downtown Louisville and contains restaurants, bars, shopping, and entertainment. It is within walking distance of most of the hotels.

Sorry, this really isn't going to be much of a post today because I am EXHAUSTED!!!!

I survived the weekend and had a fantastic time! The entire night was a complete surprise and I loved every moment of it! Pictures and stories to come! I have to wait on pictures from my friends because I didn't take a single picture with my camera. Oh and I received this text last night and I think it sums up the weekend pretty well- "Hope you had a good time! We partied from 6pm to 4am! It's still in us! :-)"

Okay, it's time to chug a couple of Red Bulls and attempt to get through the day. The bags underneath my eyes are ridiculous.....definitely need to work on those!

Happy Monday!

One Day Closer

With only 80 days left I am doing what every bride should do.......not stressing!

Here is what the rest of my wonderful week entails which should keep me stress free.

Wednesday:
Yep, you guessed it! I am off to get a manicure and a pedicure. And boy do these puppies need it. It is a very sad day in a girls life when her future hubby has softer feet than she. After today I will have soft, cute tootsies and some pretty fingers!

Thursday:
Retail Therapy is the cure all, at least in my book it is! I have to pick up my engagement ring and hopefully (fingers crossed) my wedding bands. It just so happens that the wonderful Fashion Mall is across the street from the jewelers! Talk about making the most out of a trip! :-) My plan is to look like the girl pictured above! Think I can be successful?!?

Friday:
Nothing beats the relaxed feeling one gets when the hairstylist shampoos your hair! Well, maybe an hour stone massage but beggars can't be choosers so I will settle for a good hair washing!

Saturday:
My wonderful friends are taking me out for a fun-filled night! I would love to share what that will entail but guess what?!? I don't have a clue! The events of my bachelorette party are a complete surprise for me and I couldn't be more excited! All I know is to be ready by 4pm. Don't worry, plenty of pictures shall be taken!

As you can see, this should be a stress free week. Do you have anything planned to de-stress?!?

Oh, and we survived our first pre-marital counseling session but it definitely had an awkward moment. More on that to come!

Wedding Veils

When it comes to veils there are many different styles that a bride can choose from. I was lucky enough to know exactly what type of veil I wanted. I have wanted this style of veil since I was a little girl so when it came time to pick out my veil it was a no brainer! But for those who aren't sure what style veil to go with there are several options out there. Here are some of the different style veils:

Blusher Veil: a veil that is worn over the brides face. Typically the blusher falls somewhere between the collar bone and bust.

Fly-Away Veil: a multi-layered veil that just brushes the shoulders. It is a less formal veil.

Birdcage Veil: used to be worn by older brides but is now becoming very trendy and popular amongst brides going for a vintage glam.

Elbow-Length Veil: extends to the elbow and can be multi-layered.

Fingertip Veil: extends to the finger tips and can be multi-layered.

Ballet Length Veil: extends down to the ankles but never touches the ground. This veil is great for dresses without trains and is still hassle free like the veils above.

Chapel Length Veil: extends 6 to 12 inches beyond a chapel length train. A chapel length train typically falls 4 feet from the waist.

Semi-Cathedral Veil: extends 6 to 12 inches beyond a semi-cathedral length train. A semi-cathedral train typically falls 5 to 7 feet from the waist.

Cathedral Veil: extends 6 to 12 inches beyond a cathedral length train. A cathedral train typically falls 7 to 8 feet from the waist.

So, what veil is my childhood dream veil?!? The Cathedral length veil!!! My dress has a cathedral length train so it pairs perfectly with the cathedral length veil. I wanted something simple since the train is so ornate so I went with an ivory edged satin ribbon. I love my veil!

As you can see, there are several different styles to chose from. What style veil are you going to be wearing on your big day (or wore on your big day)? Are you opting for no veil at all? What led you to pick the style veil that you chose?

Have a great Tuesday! Wish us luck! We start pre-marital counseling tonight!!!

Monday, June 1, 2009

I hope that everyone had a wonderful weekend! I know I did!

Future Hubby and I cooked out with my best friend/MOH, P, and her husband on Friday night. Nothing beats beers/wine on the deck while enjoying the beautiful weather! :-)

On Saturday we went to pick up our wedding bands. Slight issue- the spacing of the diamonds on my band did not match the spacing on my engagement ring, at all. And Future Hubby's ring didn't turn out quite like we had envisioned either (or at least it didn't turn out according to the original design that had been drawn up). Let's just say that our rings are being fixed and due to the spacing mistake on the ring I am going to end up with even more diamonds than originally expected for the same price of the original quote. Yay!!

After the jewelery store adventure we headed to our local hang out - Menards. Phase 1 and Phase 2 of our patio project are done so now it is time to begin Phase 3 which will require 500 retaining wall bricks. Doesn't that sound like fun?!? I look at it as the perfect way to get a tan while toning my arms and legs! Screw going to the gym, build a paver patio with retaining walls and I guarantee you will have nicely, toned arms! After Menards we went out to dinner and then went home to be HUGE bums the rest of the night. It worked out great since we had some pretty hefty storms roll through. I know the dogs appreciated us being there (they aren't exactly fans of storms). Our king size bed quickly dwindled down to what felt like a twin size bed thanks to Buerly and Rooney taking up over half of the bed. They have no problem making themselves comfortable at the expense of our comfort. Spoiled rotten!

On Sunday we went to a new church. The pastor who is marrying us preaches at this church. The church that we went to is part of the 'feeder school/church systems' that feeds into the Lutheran high school that I attended. I saw several people I knew from high school so it didn't feel that new/different to me. Poor Future Hubby was thrown into something very new. He had attended a Catholic high school so the style of service was very different from what he was used to. My favorite comment from Future Hubby- "Wow, you Lutheran sure like to sing!" Haha! After the church service we were able to officially meet the pastor who is marrying us. He doesn't mess around! He scheduled our first pre-marital counseling session for this Tuesday! YIKES!!!! I can't believe how nervous I am for this! Were you nervous?!?

On our way home from church, Future Hubby saw a billboard advertising an exhibit at the zoo and threw out the idea of going to the zoo for the day. We had a WONDERFUL time! The weather was amazing and I captured some great pictures of the animals. Note to self- make sure that when we have kids that we teach them to have manners and behave well in public places. That was the only issue with going to the zoo on the weekend- lots of bratty kids. And to make it worse, the parents are sometimes worse than the kids. I am going to stop there because I could climb up on my soap box and rant for hours on this topic. Don't worry, I didn't let the bratty kids/parents ruin our day! :-)

All in all, we had a wonderful weekend! Now it is back to the grind. BUT I have a lot to look forward to!!!! My bachelorette party is this weekend and it is a big secret as to what we are doing!!!! YAY!!!

Have a great Monday!!!
Haha! I love this picture! Boys being boys! Photo via Tamara Ehrgott Photography
