Engagement Photo Update

I talked to my photographer yesterday and my engagement pictures are done!!!!! YAY!!!!

Issue - the pictures have not been sent to Pictage yet due to a family emergency that occurred earlier and she was out of town at a photo shoot. She told me to give her a call at some point today so that we could discuss the engagement picture situation and set up a meeting to go over guest book ideas.

I am very optimistic and hopefully I will have my grubby little hands all over these pictures in the next day or so! Keep your fingers crossed and hopefully my next post will be a sneak peak at some of my pictures!!!

For now I leave you with two more pictures that I sent to my florist, David, to consider as inspiration (obviously with our color scheme in mind) for our high centerpieces (we want to alternate high-low)! You can also see the first picture I sent to our florist for consideration at Tying the Knot! Enjoy!

Flowers

(Top four images via Hibiscus Floral, bottom image via Perfect Wedding Day)
Okay, believe it or not, the images above are all silk flower bouquets! I am amazed how far the industry has come along since the terrible, tacky 80's looking silk flowers!
The reason for this post is that my best friend and I were talking over a beer or two (or three or four......) and she informed me that she had bought her wedding bouquet. Her wedding is not until May so I was quite confused until she told me that she had found a gorgeous silk bouquet. Her next remark stunned me! She said, "I know, it sounds really tacky!" I was actually thinking that it sounded really economical!
I mean let's think about it -
  • You can save a lot of money using silk flowers
  • You won't have to worry about flowers wilting or dying prior to your wedding (or transportation damages)
  • A lot of people have allergies and this would remedy that issue
  • The bouquet can be created ahead of time
  • You will always have the bouquet and won't have to spend the costly amount to preserve your wedding bouquet (I looked into preservation it it is pretty costly)
  • Silk wedding bouquets travel well for destination weddings
  • You can use any flower you want whether it is in season or not

These are all great reasons for using silk bouquets!

For a bride on a budget who is looking to cut costs somewhere, silk flowers can be a great alternative! The fact that you will always have the bouquet that you walked down the aisle with is awesome. Preservation can only do so much and depending on how rough you were with your bouquet that day it definitely will not look as good as it did when you walked down the aisle.

Side note - My mother had a real bouquet for her wedding but then had a mirror image of her bouquet created with silk flowers. If I can dig the picture up I will definitely post it but my mom has a picture of me when I was little dressed up in her wedding dress carrying her silk bouquet around! Haha!

Wedding Shoes

Okay, I know most of you are thinking, "When is this girl going to shut up?!?" Believe it or not, I have a lot to say today!!!

I have been looking for taupe colored shoes for my wedding (bridesmaids hopefully will have champagne colored shoes) and have had very little luck. Let's face it- colorful bridal shoes are definitely the rage and just add more picture opportunities. Rich has no idea why girls want shoe shots.....my photographer and I tried to explain the reasoning.....he has a lot to learn.

I mean, what is not to love about these shoe shots?!

I am beginning to think that I am going to have to go down the dyeable route. Has anyone ventured into the world of dyeable shoes?!? Please share your experience in case I need to venture away in dyeable shoe land!

For the time being here are some pictures of shoes I found that I like. Let me know what you think!

Kate Spade

Benjamin Adams - Scarlet

Joyce

And now......the love and lust of my life!

Christian Louboutin

While I can only imagine that it would be heavenly to slip my feet into a GORGEOUS pair of Louboutin's the morning of my wedding I can not for the life of my rationalize spending $860 (*gasp*) on a pair of shoes. But hey, a girl can dream!!!! Well, I am off to dream of Christian Louboutin and Manolo Blahnik shoes, feel free to snap me out of dream land and back to reality!!!

Happy Friday!!!

I have been babbling alot lately so I am going to let these BEAUTIFUL pictures do the talking! Have a great weekend and happy planning.

Another gorgeous picture of my friend Jessica whose wedding was PHENOMENAL!

Guest Favors

I have been looking at bridal website after website in a search of guest favors. Most of the options that I have seen are cute but nothing has made me say - "OH! I have to have!!!"

I sat at my parents house the other night complaining to my mom about why I don't seem to be that interested in anything I see. It was then that my mom made a very good point that completely redirected my search for the ultimate guest favors.
She asked me, "How many weddings have you been to that you either forget your guest favor at the venue or the guest favor ends up getting tossed in a pile of stuff in your house that just sits and collects dust?!?" It was then that I realized that she was right! I am not trying to knock guest favors because there is a lot of hard work put into making the favor look absolutely adorable! I have definitely seen my fair share of awesome looking (and tasting) guest favors!!! I do think that our guests deserve to be thanked for taking time out of their lives to help us celebrate such a monumental moment in our lives but I do not think candy or candles is the route that I would like to go down. Plus, we are having a candy bar at the wedding so that takes care of the sugar fix that people, like myself, crave!

With that being said, Rich and I are going to calculate how much we were planning on spending on guest favors. We are going to take that money and donate it to a charity (probably Riley Children's Hospital) in honor of our guests.

The I Do Foundation allows couples to select a charity of their choice to donate the money to. There are also several different choices of table cards your can order to place at each guests' seat. I like the concept but the cards seem pretty expensive especially when I can do a DIY project and create them myself! I emailed the organization to find out if 100% of the money donated goes to that charity because believe it or not there are a lot of organizations that do not send 100% of the donation to the charity or the money is spent differently than most would like it to be spent (aka - the chairman's ridiculous salary......sickening). I will let you know what I find out when I hear back from them!

The I Do Foundation is an awesome concept but I would rather create the table cards myself (save money and add my own personal touch) and donate the money directly to the charitable foundation.

Card options -

Thank you for being a part of our lives and our wedding day. In honor and appreciation of our guests, we have made a contribution to ........

or
In lieu of favors we have mad a donation to the ....... on your behalf. Thank you for being a part of our lives and our wedding day.

Guest favors are fun but this is a route that I would like to go down from a personal standpoint. I will still search websites and drool over cute, creative guest favors!!! Happy Friday!!!

The Morning of Our Big Day

I know that my wedding day is 9 months away but I still think about the morning of our wedding and the entire timeline of how it is all going to happen. I am struggling with a couple details- mainly staying in the Bridal Suite all by myself the night before and the journey to the hair salon.

I am getting my hair done at a hair salon on the south side of Indy called Exclusives Hair Salon and Day Spa. I am sure that some of the other bridemaids will also want to get their hair done at the salon. The salon has a wonderful area upstairs for bridal parties where they are completely separated from all the other clientele. They have several chairs, manicure station, etc. My big issue is that I didn't want everyone to have to drive down there and then back downtown. Plus, let's face it......we will all be drinking a couple of Mimosa's the morning of the wedding! I had also debated on seeing if the hair stylists would come to the Bridal Suite downtown at the Marriott where I will be staying the night before the wedding.

My other issue is that I really don't want to stay in that suite all by myself since we are going down the traditional route of not spending the night together the night before (yes- I am a big baby).

Adrienne, one of my best friends and bridesmaid, helped solve my dilemma!

Solution - I am going to see if all the bridemaids would want to crash in the bridal suite the night before the wedding but only if they want to! I just think it would be so awesome to wake up the day of my wedding with all of my closest friends! Is this selfish of me?!?

Once awake we will all get showered (or shower the night before) and then climb into a limo to head to the hair salon. My mother, mother-in-law, and flowergirl (though I am sure she will want to crash in the bridal suite with us) will join us at this time for the limo ride. We can sip Mimosa's on the way to the hair salon and just have time to spend together. There will be a couple of hair stylists scheduled to work on people's hair. My photographer and videographer will stop by to capture some shots of us getting ready. Once we are done we can head back downtown to the bridal suite to finish getting ready.

Mmmmm.......I could go for one right now! I am sure work would frown upon that!

This would be nice to transport us to and from the hair salon!

Meanwhile, my fiance is going to see if the groomsmen would like to crash at our house the night before the wedding. They will all get up and get ready together (I am sure while watching football and drinking). My fiance's exact words were- "While you guys get your hair done I will throw a party with my groomsmen." LOVELY!! I am thinking that since the hair salon is just down the road from our house I am going to send the videographer and photographer to the house to get some "memories" captured. Maybe the boys will behave a little better if they are being taped/photographed (doubt it). In the end, we are going to have to get a limo to take them downtown to finish getting ready as well (I'm sure they won't complain about that one bit).

What are your plans for getting ready in the morning?

Engagement Pictures......HURRY HURRY!!!!

I am still patiently waiting for my engagement picture proofs (okay, maybe not so patiently). I have already started planning all the different things that I am going to do once these pictures are in my greedy little hands!!!

  1. Save the Dates

  2. Blurb/Shutterfly Book

  3. Guest Book for the Wedding
Save the Dates - I am going to have to go through the agonizing process of creating save the dates. Yes ladies and gents, the moment that I have dreaded the most about wedding planning is coming close - Save the Dates and Invitations! There are soooooo many choices that it makes me dizzy and desire an alcoholic beverage (well, maybe not to that extreme.....maybe just sometimes).

So, if anyone has any places that they used for save the dates or ideas.......please help!!!

Blurb/Shutterfly - once the engagement pictures are in my hands I am definitely going to be going to Blurb or Shutterfly to create a lovely coffee table book to grace our table of all of our engagement pictures. This will also allow me to have all of my engagement pictures on display and not just have them stored in some box or on the computer. Both of these websites are AWESOME because they allow you to upload your pictures and create photo albums for very cheap (cheaper than you can make a scrap book anymore)!! The websites are also very user friendly and have many options when it comes to backgrounds, fonts, etc. My sister-in-law, Tara, is currently working on a photo album of my niece and nephew on Shutterfly and it is ADORABLE!! These two websites would also be a great, affordable places to create wedding albums once we take ownership of the proofs!

Shutterfly and Blurb books

I know it is hard to believe but Rich and I really don't have that many pictures of just the two of us (drunken times at parties in college are probably not the best to be flashing to family). So, this will actually give me a book that has, hopefully, great pictures of the two of us and it will be fun! I have also thought about making one of these awesome books for my mom and his mom because they alwasy complain that they never have pictures of the two of us!

Guest Book - Lastly, once my engagement pictures are done my photographer, Angela, is going to put together a guest book for people to sign at our wedding that will have all of our engagement pictures! I am SOOO excited!
