Coolest People at the Party

Living in the state that holds the "largest sporting spectacle in the world" means lots of cookouts and parties if you aren't going to the race.  Hubs and I are going to my BIL's house for a cookout on Sunday.  During the day it is a family pool party/cook-out but at night it turns into an adults-only party.  Sounds like fun, right?!

I asked my SIL what I could bring to the cookout.  She responded that I could bring a side dish or a dessert.  I decided that I was going to make this yummy fruit trifle and 7-layer taco dip.  Tends to always be a big hit.

Well, Hubs had his own plans of what I should make.  He insisted we would be the hit of the party if we made his suggestion.  I was almost scared to ask him for his idea but I asked away.  His response:

"Dirt!"

WHAT?!? Dirt?!? Based on my reaction he followed with, "Yeah, dirt! You know, like the awesome kid's dessert with chocolate pudding, Oreos and gummy worms! Every kid will LOVE us and think that we are the coolest if we bring dirt to the cookout."

There you have it bloggerland friends, Hubs' goal for this party is to be the coolest adult there in the eyes of all the kids!  Oh Hubs, you are such a kid at heart and I love it! I am pretty sure he also wants me to make dirt pudding so that he can get a little piece too.  ;-)

Of course, I have to take it one step farther......I bought a plastic sand pail to serve the dirt pudding in and will have them scope the pudding out with the plastic sand shovel.  I have also been looking for gummi bugs to scatter on top with the gummi worms.  No luck on the gummi bugs yet.

And to appease the adults (though I think I will catch some adults stealing a scoop or two of the dirt pudding) I will still make my fruit trifle and 7-layer taco dip.

Have a wonderful holiday weekend!!!!

Unbelievable

I know that it is close to the weekend and I should be thinking nothing but happy thoughts.  But after reading an article in the news I am just sickened.  So, I apologize now for this rant!

FoxNews ran an article about a Wisconsin war veteran who has an American flag hanging in the window of his apartment.  The apartment complex is threatening to evict him and his wife if they do not take down the American flag after Memorial Day.  The apartment complex does not allow flags, banners, signs, religious signs, and political signs.

Direct quote from the article from the apartment complex- "This policy was developed to insure that we are fair to everyone as we have many residents from diverse backgrounds," the statement read. "By having a blanket policy of neutrality we have found that we are less likely to offend anyone and the aesthetic qualities of our apartment communities are maintained." (Article found here)

UMMMMMMM!!!!! HELLO?!? This is freaking America, not Brazil or England or Russia!!!! If you are from another country and are offended by America's flag then go back to your own country!  It is sickening that people claim to be offended by the American flag in America while reaping the benefits of this supposedly terrible country.  If it is that bad then go back to your home country.  Oh wait, your home country doesn't give you a life as good as America does?!? Your freaking welcome and stop your complaining.  I love this country but I am start to get very disgusted where things are going.  It is a very sad day when you can't proudly wave the flag of the country that you are living in without repercussions. You might as well have slapped that war veteran in the face and told him that what he fought for meant nothing.

{Breathe Laura, breathe} Thank you for listening to my rant! I am done now! :-)

To all the men and women serving in our armed forces I want to say Thank You! Thank you for fighting for our freedom and protecting us!

Have a wonderful, safe Memorial Day Weekend!

Tales in Shopping Land, Part Deux

I had a couple people ask me which purses I purchased from the Coach outlet in my post from yesterday (here).

So, I present to you my lovelies!
The brown leather large Parker Hobo

The black large leather Maggie

The online pictures do not do the Maggie justice.  This bag is beaut-i-mous (what, that isn't a word in Webster's dictionary?! Shocking)!  It also is large and has plenty of room inside.......my kind of purse! The Parker Hobo is such a fun purse! I have been carrying it the past two days and I love it!

When I got home from shopping Hubs immediately eyed the Coach shopping bag and said, "What!? You bought ANOTHER Coach purse!  How many purses do you need?!"  I didn't have the heart to tell him that there were two purses in the shopping bag nor did I respond to his 'how many purses do you need' comment.  Ehhhhhh......he doesn't need to know! lol

If you have a Coach outlet near you I highly recommend that you stop by.  It could be dangerous (to your credit card/bank account) but totally worth it! They have some fabulous purses in their 'take an additional 50% off the already marked down price' section and then you also get an additional 20% off coupon when  you walk into the store.  You do the math.  You can thank me later! lol

Have a wonderful Thursday! One more day until a much needed 3 day weekend!!!

Tales in Shopping Land

My momma and I went to the outlet the other day to do some shopping.  Of course we stopped by the fabulous Coach outlet. :-)  Here is the conversation between me and a male Coach employee {we shall refer to him as CE- Coach Employee}.

CE: OOOOOOH!!!!! {he squeals as he claps his hands} You obviously have fabulous taste in fashion {referring to the purses that I had grabbed}.  Those purses are made with our high end leather.
Me: {flattered} Oh, why thank you!
CE: OH MY GOODNESS!!!! Those stiletto peep-toe pumps are GORG!
Me: {starting to get an ego boost} THANKS! They are the most comfortable things.
CE: I have to ask, how tall are those pumps? Since your skinny jeans cover part of the heel it can be deceiving.
Me: Ummm....these are 4 inch heels.
CE: WHAT?!? Sweetie, you are crazy! I love it! Shopping in 4 inch heels?! Really?!
Me: Haha.....they are super comfy.
CE: Honey, you could totally be my BFF.  We should go shopping together sometime.  You just let me know if you need anymore help with any purses.
Me: Oh, I will!!! Thank you!

So you have it, the eccentric Coach employee thinks that I have fabulous taste and wants to be my BFF shopping buddy.  I LOVE it!!!  Hubs just laughed when I told him the story and agreed that I need a gay friend to go shopping with because the gay men we know have wonderful style and are absolutely hilarious!  Plus the Coach employee gave quite the ego boost and what girl doesn't love that?!?  I need a Will in my life! :-)

And if he was just complimenting me to get the sale.....it worked!  I caved and purchased two new beautiful purses.  Love them!  Also, Coach had some great sales going on! So, economy......consider yourself stimulated. {that sounds kind of dirty.....lol}

TGIF

AHHHHHHH!!!!! It's Friday!!!! :-)

And you know what the best part is?!? It is supposed to actually be extremely nice weather this weekend! It seems like it has been crappy weather every weekend and then really nice out during the work week......not cool Mother Nature, not cool.

I am hoping to do this over the weekend:
A little golf action

Weeding and planting flowers/plants in my flower beds

Mowing the yard (desperately needs to be done after all the rain we have gotten)

Grill out

Go running

And after all of that I think I will need......
A nap
(Rooney as a puppy)

Have a great weekend everyone!!!!

Ghost from the Past

A ghost from my past reappeared last night {spooky}.  Don't worry, it was a joyful time despite some pain but I was able to get past that.  It had been FOREVER since I had last seen this ghost from my past......probably high school days.  Now that this ghost has reappeared I am determined to not let them go.

You all are probably wondering about this ghost.

My ghostly visitor was............

MY ABS!!!! Holy muscles I had forgotten about!  My abs are definitely letting me know that they are back {hopefully to stay}.

I bought a new exercise toy the other day and tried it out for the first time last night.  It definitely made me feel the burn!!!
Bosu Ball meet Abs, Abs meet your worst nightmare

The ball came with a DVD that has four different workouts on it (Absolutely Abs, Calorie Combustion, Long and Lean, and Total Body).  I did the ab work out last night and realized a couple things- a.) I still have abs, b.) the abs that I have are pathetic and c.) abs make a HUGE difference when it comes to balance.  I am pretty sure that had Hubs walked in while I was doing this he would have gotten a really good laugh along with free entertainment.  As if the shrieks and loud crashes from me falling weren't laughable enough! So, hopefully if I do this frequently enough I will remedy b.) and c.).

I can't really give a full review yet since I have only done one of the workouts but as soon as I do the other three workouts I will do a full review.  I wanted something different and fun to incorporate into my workouts and this seemed like the perfect thing.  So far I really like it despite how clumsy I look on the ball.

Oh and as if balancing on that thing isn't hard enough, I have my wonderful helpers, Buerly and Rooney, hindering aiding me along the way.  Buerly thought it was a fun, giant ball that he could attack and Rooney was obsessed with the air pump.  Needless to say, I had to hide the Bosu Ball when I was done with it otherwise Buerly and Rooney would destroy it.

Have a wonderful Thursday! One more day!!!! :-D

Rain {Sigh}

Dear Rain,

Your constant presence lately is starting to wear out its welcome {ummmm....about 3 weeks ago to be exact}.  I know that you make my flowers and grass green and beautiful but I am pretty sure they too could use a break from you {before they drown}.  I think you need to give Mr. Sunshine some time to come out and play.  So stop being so selfish!

And as if Mondays aren't hard enough, waking up in the morning when you are around is ten times harder.  I just want to stay in bed all day snuggled up under my blankets with Hubs and my puppies when you are here.  You really need to work on your timing!

Lastly, your presence kind of ruins a lot of my plans.  For instance, I won't be able to take my nice long run outside after work tonight since you are here.  Hubs and I won't be able to grill out.  And grocery shopping with you around just plain sucks!

So, I would really appreciate it if you just took a break for a bit or worked on your timing.  Feel free to come around anytime after 10pm but make sure you are gone before 6am.  I know this sounds harsh but since you haven't listened to any of my previous pleas I feel the need to get to the straight to the point.

SO GO AWAY!!!!

Sincerely,
One who is sick of being cold and wet

Hurry Up 3:30

Because after work I hopefully get to see these two sweet faces!

Aren't they the cutest?!? Okay, I might be a little biased but try to tell me differently! lol
Oh how I miss them and can't wait to see them! R is six and her little brother, T, will be two in July.  Whenever I talk to my SIL on the phone T will request to talk to his "War-wa".  Ahhhhhh.....my heart melts! That boy definitely knows the way to his aunts heart! :-)

Have a great weekend everyone!!!

My Very Own Little Sea Lion

Rooney tends to sleep in some of the craziest, most uncomfortable looking positions.  Hubs and I constantly look at him while he sleeps and wonder how that could ever be comfortable.  One position, in particular, makes him look like a sea lion or a seal.

If you look very closely you can see that he sleeps with both of his arms tucked backwards underneath him.  How the heck is that comfortable?!
If you look at him from straight on or even above him he looks like a.) he has no front legs and b.) a sea lion (especially when he has his hind legs stretched straight out which he normally does)!
From the side you can see how he tucks his front leg.  I think it looks very painful but apparently he seems to think it is quite comfortable because he sleeps like this a lot!

So whenever Rooney is sleeping in this crazy position Hubs will bark like a sea lion and clap his arms in front of him.  Rooney just gives him the stink eye and goes back to sleep.  lol

Speaking of Rooney and sleeping.  The little booger loves being buried underneath any blanket he can find.  There are nights where we will jump into bed only to discover Rooney curled up asleep underneath our comforter.  He LOVES to be warm! This morning was no different.  Hubs got up around 4am to go to the bathroom.  The second he got up Rooney was burrowing underneath the comforter and Buerly was snuggling up with his head on Hubs' pillow.  Obviously Buerly was told to move when Hubs came back to bed but Rooney had managed to go unnoticed at the foot of the bed.  When the alarm went off this morning I got up to start getting ready for work.  All of a sudden we saw this little bump under the covers attempting to root his way out.  Rooney was really struggling to get out from underneath the covers.  After a few minutes he just gave up and you saw his body sigh.  So Hubs went to help the poor guy out.  Rooney had managed to somehow work his way inside the duvet coverlet.  Not only was he inside the duvet coverlet but he was completely stuck at the opposite end of where he had worked his way in.  Poor little booger was stuck!  I seriously wish I had had my camera to take a picture.  After a good laugh Hubs helped him find his way out and was deemed the hero of the morning!

Sadly, this isn't the first time that he has managed to get stuck in our duvet coverlet.  Last time he managed to get his head through an opening between the buttons at the end of the duvet.  His large, broad shoulders couldn't squeeze through so all you saw was this little head peeking out {once again I laughed for a good minute or two before I freed him}.  I am seriously thinking about sewing a zipper at the end so that he can't get into the coverlet.  Stupid buttons!

Have a wonderful Thursday! One more day!

Oh Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?

I am guessing that this is what the owners of Paco, the dog, are saying right now.  I am sure you have all heard about this story by now.  But just in case you haven't, I will give you a refresher-

A couple found a stray dog while visiting friends in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.  They decided to rescue the poor pup.  They purchased a carrier and leash and had the dog vaccinated.  When the vacation was over the couple paid Delta the $200 fee to fly their pup back home with them.  They had a 5 hour layover in Mexico City before they flew to Detroit.  That would be the last time they saw Paco.  When they landed in Detroit the couple discovered that the dog was not on the flight.  Delta first told the couple that the dog had missed the flight and would be on the very next flight.  Later they were told that Paco busted out of his crate and was missing somewhere in Mexico City.  Delta offered to refund them the $200 fee, give them credits for future flights and reimburse the cost of the dog.  You can find the entire story here
I would be royally PISSED off if an airline lost one of my dogs!  I was absolutely horrified when I saw this story on Foxnews.  Words cannot even describe how angry I would be at an airline!  There would be no consoling me.  My FIL was joking with me and said, "If an airline lost Buerly or Rooney I would drive straight to the airport to try to calm you down."  My response was, "No.....skip going to the airport, you would need to drive straight to jail because I would be in custody for killing a Delta employee."

How the heck does a dog escape from a heavy duty plastic dog crate?!? They don't exactly have imposable thumbs.  And I am guessing that without imposable thumbs it would be quite difficult to open the spring lock.  I am not buying a single thing that Delta is saying.

And the fact that Delta is giving the couple future travel credits as an apology is a slap in the face.  If I were the owners of that dog I would tell Delta where they could shove those future travel credits.  And from the sounds of it, the guy told Delta just that.  Oh and that he would never ever fly Delta again.  After hearing about this story I don't think I would ever fly Delta again.  First they lose luggage, now they lose dogs.....what next.....kids?!? Okay, maybe not that extreme but seriously!

Hey Delta, grow a set and admit that you made a HUGE mistake!

I Have a Bone to Pick!

That's kind of a funny saying, isn't it?!? I mean, what does picking bones have to do with discussing an issue you have with someone?

Okay, back to the real reason for this post......

I don't know about anyone else but I tend to walk fast.  I don't run or necessarily speed walk, I just walk at a swift pace.  My mom and dad both are fast walkers so I learned quickly to walk fast or get left behind (not really, they would have waited for me but it made it sound a lot more dramatic).

As I got older my mom taught me the valuable shopping lesson of walking fast to cover as much retail square footage as physically possible during an allotted period of time.  This would prove very valuable when I entered the adult working world in which people are only given an hour lunch break.  Seriously, who actually eats lunch these days.....j/k!!!!

Yesterday was no different.  I had a lot of square footage to cover in a short period of time if I was going to accomplish everything on my list.  Of course all the stores were at opposite ends of the mall from each other.  So I parked at Von Maur and got right down to business.

I picked out and tried on the shoes that were of interest to me.  Once I made my final decision I politely asked the lady to hold the shoes for me.  LESSON #1- Don't carry unnecessary baggage if possible, it will only slow you down.  If you can have them hold it.....do that! I knew that I would be walking by the shoe department on my way out.

I left Von Maur and ventured out to the dreaded mall area.  I was immediately in shopping hell! I was constantly getting stuck walking behind people who obviously had no where of any importance to be*.  These people not only took their sweet time but they also veered all over the place like a bunch of drunks.  Passing them was impossible.  Every time I tried to make my move the slow poke would cut me off.  People who know me know that I am not a patient person! God must have skipped over me when He was handing out patience!  I cannot stand walking behind people who saunter at a snails pace.  I have places to be people!!!! So move over and get the hell out of my way!  It's not that hard!  You don't have to take up the entire aisle way of the mall!

My other shopping pet peeve is parents who just let their kids run like wild banshees.  I am not talking about the kids who are with their parents and maybe don't keep up or walk a little ahead.  I am talking about parents who sit on the benches, watch as their kids wreak havoc clear across the mall and laugh thinking it is so cute.  It's not cute!   To these parents- I will plow your child over if they get in my way because you don't know how to control your kid in public.  Okay, maybe not plow over but I won't be happy and will probably give you a VERY dirty look and possibly say something!  I had one kid who darted in front of me and another who ran into me.  I about face planted twice thanks to these two little brats (maybe 5 or 6 years old).  Where were the parents?!? Oh, half way down the mall in another store clueless as to their kids whereabouts! Great parenting job!

So ladies and gentlemen, that is why I was unable to accomplish everything on my shopping list yesterday.  Don't worry, I will get over it (actually, I am already over it).

Phew! Okay, I am done with my rant! If you are still reading, thank you for listening!

* - I have nothing against people who walk at a slow pace.....just people who walk at a slow place and don't allow others to pass them.

Adventures in Shopping Land

I am back from my lunch meeting (Me + Mall + Credit Card = Lunch Meeting).  It wasn't quite as successful as I had hoped but I still came out ahead! :-)  Would you lovelies like to see what I purchased?!?

Too bad if you said no because I am going to show you anyways!
Versace Bright Crystal at Sephora
YEA!!! I won't smell anymore! lol
Bvlgari BLV II at Sephora
This is Bvlgari's newest scent and it is AH-MAZING!!! Very light and summery!

Glitter Eyeliner at Sephora
I bought this in black.  It looked like fun! :-)

Old Navy Flip Flops - 2 pairs for $5
I may or may not have purchased these in almost every color known to man. ;-)

Nina Elga Ruffled T-Strap Pumps at Von Maur
They are even prettier in person! {Sigh}

And lastly
Carlos Santana Prestige Ruffle Pump at Von Maur
I always buy black shoes so I finally caved and bought these in the fun fuchsia color!

Thank goodness for great deals at Old Navy on the flipper floppers and lots of gift cards to Sephora! :-)

I ran over to VS to see if I could find the comfy sweatshirt and crewneck shirt.  Alas, my precious comfy clothes were no where in sight.  Looks like I will have to place an online order.  hehe

All in all I think I managed to cause enough damage in half an hour! Wouldn't you agree?!?  I probably could have gotten into a little more trouble had it not been for some very rude mall patrons but that is a whole other post!

Have a great afternoon!

Shopping vs Lunch

This morning I made the executive decision (sounds so professional, right?) to run to the mall at lunch to do a little retail therapy.  Forfeiting food for shopping is a small sacrifice!

Normally I would just wait until the weekend to go but unfortunately our weekend is jam packed so that is a no go.  Plus I desperately need to go to Sephora to pick up some more perfume.

So, in order to maximize my shopping I have already done a little search online so I don't waste my time.  Here are a few items I wouldn't mind picking up while out:
Versace Bright Crystal at Sephora
Without this stuff I might begin to smell.....lol

Steve Madden Caryssa Pumps at Von Maur
Hello Lover!!!! What's not to love about these gorgeous 5" pumps?!

Nina Elga Ruffled T-Strap Pump at Von Maur
Yes please!

The perfect little cocktail dress

Flip Flops from Old Navy
A staple in my summer wardrobe!!!

Crewneck Tee from Victoria's Secret
Looks so soft and comfy!

Pink Hoodie from Victoria's Secret
Perfect for a rainy day (like today)

Now considering the fact that all of these stores happen to be on opposite sides of the mall- this girl is going to get quite the workout at lunch!

Hope you all have a wonderful Tuesday!!!

Product Review: iPod Shuffle

This is the color that I picked

Grade: A-

Pros:
  • Small and extremely light-weight
  • Clip on back of shuffle
  • Easy to use control pad on the top of the headphones
    • Click plus or minus to adjust volume up and down
    • Single squeeze the center to pause
    • Double squeeze to skip forward to next track
    • Triple squeeze to skip back to the previous track
    • Able to switch between playlists (squeeze and keep holding the center to switch)
    • Able to fast forward or rewind by squeezing center twice and then holding or squeezing center three times and holding
  • Ability to shuffle playlist (I would seriously hope that it could do this since it is called the iPod Shuffle)
  • Able to upload large amount of music onto shuffle
  • Voice Over capable to tell you the name of the song and artist playing (squeeze and hold the center of the control pad)
  • Lots of colors to choose from (very girly, I know)
  • Pretty long battery life
  • $50 for the 2GB.....pretty darn cheap for an iPod
  • Perfect for exercising and running
Cons:
  • No display screen to see what song is playing
  • Can be overwhelming at times to have more than one playlist loaded on your iPod Shuffle (but maybe I haven't gotten completely used to this yet)
Conclusion:
I LOVE this little, and I mean little, piece of technology! It is PERFECT for running and exercising.  The fact that it is so small and light-weight allows you to run without even knowing that it is clipped to your shorts.  But because it is so light-weight I have found that I have to wrap the headphone cord once around the strap of my sports bra to keep the cord from bouncing or pulling.

At first I wasn't sure how I would like the control pad that is close to the top of the headphones.  After playing with it on a run I think it is genius!  The placement of the control pad makes it so easy to switch songs or pause the shuffle.

It is very simplistic - not a lot of bells and whistles.  Some may hate not having a display screen but me being the A.D.D. runner that I am absolutely love not having another distraction.  I don't have the temptation to constantly look down to see what is playing or what is next.

Lastly, I tend to only load one playlist on my shuffle at a time because the thought of trying to switch between playlists kind of overwhelms me.  This isn't a big deal to me but may be to others.

All in all, I highly recommend the iPod Shuffle!

Have a great Monday!!!!
