HONK HONK - Just Married

Meet my soon-to-be nephew and ring bearer, Ty:
Isn't he the cutest thing ever?!? I know I am biased but he is going to be so stinkin' cute in a tux!

Little background- Ty will be 1 in July. He is currently crawling EVERYWHERE and into EVERYTHING (and boy is he fast)! He also pulls himself up to walk along the furniture but is not officially walking on his own. His mama, my future sister-in-law and bridesmaid, has been so nervous that he will not walk down the aisle for our wedding. I am not worried because no matter what he will look adorable!

Well, problem has been solved! Thanks to the ingenuity of the family we have come up with the perfect solution! Meet our solution:
Hello Step 2 Whisper Ride Buggy from Toys R' Us! Ty already has one of these and he LOVES it! He sits in it for hours!!!!

So the plan is that even if he is walking we will probably have him pushed down the aisle by our cousin in this bad boy. Let's face it, walking down an aisle with no one in the building is one thing but walking down the aisle with a building packed full of people starring at you can be a little nerve racking (heck, I am nervous and I am much older). So even if he is walking we are afraid that he might freak out.

Currently the truck is blue (which obviously does not coordinate with our color scheme) so the family has come up with a GREAT idea to make this truck fit in (tastefully). Here we go-
  • Paint the truck black with special paint that is made for plastic (it will look like the paint job on an actual car when done)
  • Have a leather seat made that is a champagne color by one of my future father-in-law's friends.
  • Possibly chrome out the rims
  • Add LED lights where the headlights and the taillights would be
  • Add extra elastic to the ring bearer pillow so that we can put it around the hood of the truck
  • Make a sign to hang on the truck that says "Soon to be Married" on one side for when he goes down the aisle and then "Just Married" on the other side so that it can be flipped when he goes back down the aisle to leave
  • Lastly, disable the horn temporarily- he isn't obnoxious at all with the horn but just in case he decides to honk the horn during an inopportune moment, like "does anyone see why these two should not be married, if so, speak now or forever hold your peace"......."HONK HONK HONK". I think I would burst out laughing if this happened!
You all probably think that I am crazy now but I love this idea! I think it will be cute and fun for Ty! The last thing that I want to happen is for him to get scared. I would feel so bad. So this will keep him in somewhat of a comfort zone. I am sure that the truck will look awesome (knowing my future father-in-law it will look phenomenal) so I am not worried about that! And, how cute will the pictures of him in his truck be?!? I will definitely be posting pictures of the truck once it is done!

Are you doing anything different/fun to cater to a younger bridal party member?!?

Lots To Do!

Sorry for the lack of posting but I have been out of town visiting my future in-laws and other family. I hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend! I know the future hubby and I had a wonderful time! We were able to see the family, help with some projects, go golfing, etc.

Now it is back to the grind of things! I have a long list of tasks that I would like to accomplish- some wedding related, others non-wedding related. So, here goes with the wedding related stuff:
  • Pick up wedding bands- I received a call on Tuesday that our wedding bands are done! I am soooooo excited to see how they turned out. We had our bands custom designed for us. I haven't even posted a picture of my engagement ring yet (stupid camera didn't want to cooperate) but hopefully I will post a picture of that and my wedding band.
  • Finish Bridesmaids gift bags- I am still working on completing these. Doing DIY projects for 8 bridesmaids can get time consuming but I love how they are turning out and I hope they love the presents too!
  • Order Groomsmen gifts- I have it narrowed down to three different items but it has been hard for me to find time to have future hubby pick out the one that he wants to go with since he works late.
  • Pick out the tux- yeah, I still am trying to get this accomplished. Hopefully I can drag future hubby into a store this weekend to get these picked out. Fingers crossed!
  • Finalize the information that needs to be sent to April of April Foster Events for our invitations.
  • Find lots of cheap votive candles holders and candles for the tables at the reception.
Definitely a busy week since there is only two days left of the work week! And on top of all that I also have projects going on at our house. I really want to re-do our downstairs bathroom and have been researching what I want to do. I think I have been watching WAY too much DIY Network and HGTV. :-)

Have a great Thursday!!! And of course, some beautiful pictures!

This picture is just perfect in every way! I definitely need to add this to the list of pictures that I want taken at our wedding. Photo via Jessica Strickland Photography

The Chair Epiphany

Sorry, after doing yard work for several hours last night and my allergies going on the fritz (constant sneezing, beet red eyes, etc) I did not feel like uploading pictures so weekend recap will have to wait until tomorrow.

Okay, back to my chair epiphany! During our tasting I came to the realization that chiavari chairs are not comfortable to sit in AT ALL!!! After an hour of sitting on these beauties my future hubby had to stand up. I was constantly fidgeting and shifting my weight from one side to the other as my butt fell asleep. As beautiful as they are I think I am going to part with my beloved chiavari chair and opt for something more comfortable. I couldn't even sit in my chair comfortably for an hour. How do I expect my guests to sit there in agony for 1 1/2 to 2 hours?!? Even with the seat cushion the chair just was unbearably uncomfortable!
The lovely Chiavari Chair
As sad as I am that the chiavari chairs did not work out there is a bonus to the situation - extra money!!! We will definitely save a lot of money since the chiavari chairs were $10.50/chair to rent and with 330 people invited (this does not include the cushion rental). Definitely a big plus!

So, here is my new chair (well kind of):
The chairs will be in a dark brown that matches the wood floors and the seat cushions, which are quite cushy and comfy, will by a champagne color. Oh, and this picture is of the ballroom at the Scottish Rite Cathedral so you can kind of visualize how that will look. These chairs are MUCH more comfortable and still look pretty great. I would rather sacrifice a little bit of look for the comfort of my guests! Oh, and the best part - the chairs do not cost me anything because the SRC already owns them! I just have to pay for the cushion covers.

Lesson Learned - Make sure you test out the seats that your guests will be sitting in. You could have the most beautiful, fun-filled wedding but if your guests aren't comfortable the beauty and fun may not be noticed as much by your guests.

I have talked about the chiavari chair and the chair I am going with which will only have a simple seat cushion cover so here are some other options that are out there-
Traditional chair covers which come in a variety of styles, colors, and types of ties.
If you want something unique, check out Chameleon Chairs. There is a plethora (yes I used the term plethora) of options and styles that are offered. The company is not located in all cities, mostly the major cities. And I am not sure how the pricing on these chairs compare.

Chair rental costs can range from $1.25 for a simple plastic, folding chair to $14 or more for a
straight-backed wood ballroom chairs with padded seat cushions. Chair covers can range from $2 for a polyester chair cover to $8 or more for a satin-like material. Some companies will throw in the sash with the chair cover rental but others will charge extra for sash's especially if you want a specific color other than white. These prices can range from free with chair cover rental to $3 or more per sash. After doing the math one can see how quickly things can add up! Oh, and if you want someone else to put those covers on there is usually a 'labor' fee that is tacked onto your total. And just when you think you are done you have to consider table linen rentals and place setting rentals. Some venues may include these but others do not. And if you want something to tie in with a theme or color theme then you will be forking over more cash for that perk. (Note: my averages are based on vendors in Indiana so averages may vary from state to state)

I now can understand why I felt so overwhelmed at the tasting. I had to consider the food selections, the chairs, the chair covers, the linens, and the place settings! Oh my goodness! Were you overwhelmed too?!? Good luck to all who are currently going through this process or will be going through this process in the future. It definitely can be tough when trying to stick to a budget!

Have a great Thursday!

The Menu

I just realized that it is probably cruel to post the menu right before lunch time. I know that I am already hungry but now I am starving after reading through our menu options. Our caterers are Thomas Caterers of Distinction. I wasn't really that excited about the tasting and didn't really care what was selected since we had no choice in the caterer (shame on me, I know). After going through the tasting my entire perception has changed!!! I think I didn't care because I didn't really expect any catered food to be that impressive (future hubby and I are kind of food snobs) but I ended up having a blast. In the end I thought the food was great and our event planner at the catering company, Dee, was phenomenal! So here goes with the menu:
  • Hors D'oeurves:
    • Shrimp shooter with cocktail sauce or a creole remoulade sauce
    • Nori roll with duck, sushi rice, wasabi aioli and pickled ginger on a wonton chip
    • Fontina risotto ball with a roasted red pepper marinara (fancy mac and cheese)
    • Grilled garden pizza with assorted vegetables, olive oil, and jack cheese
  • Salad:
    • Strawberry Salad - field greens with a sweet balsamic vinaigrette garnished with fresh strawberries and macadamia nuts
  • Dinner:
    • Sugar snap peas
    • Savoyarde potatoes with Gruyere cheese and onions (absolutely delish!)
    • Roast tenderloin of beef and boneless breast of chicken with a Rosemary demi-glaze
  • Dessert:
    • Wedding Cake (obviously) - chocolate, white, and sour cream strawberry
    • Grooms Cake - Fun Fetti (future hubby is going to LOVE this)
    • Strawberries dipped in chocolate
    • Lolipop cheesecake balls dipped in chocolate (haven't decided on what flavor of cheesecake we are going with yet)
    • Chocolate mousse ganache in a chocolate bowl
And there you have it! This is our menu. Everything tasted fabulous and I hope that our guests feel the same way! I don't see how anyone could leave our wedding hungry with all the food that we are having! :-)

The chocolate covered strawberries was a MUST HAVE for me! Was/is there any menu items for your wedding that was/is a must have for you?

I am only 3 months out but I guess it still hadn't hit me that I really am getting married really soon. Last night did it for me! It totally hit me that I am getting married very soon!!!! Between the dress fitting and the tasting I am now completely aware that I am marrying the man of my dreams in 94 days and counting!!!! Did this happen to you? When did it really hit you?

Okay, I know that I still have 2 hours before lunch but I am hungry now! So, I am off to go find some food!

Checking Things Off of the List

Wow! I feel like Tuesday was sooooo productive! I was checking things right off of my list! Want to see what I accomplished?!? (Well, unless you stop reading right here you don't really have a choice....haha)
  • Cocktail Napkins - I ordered our cocktail napkins. The cocktail napkin will have our monogram on the napkin.
  • Dress Tag - I ordered my dress tag from MondeDesign on Etsy. I will post a picture once I get the proof back.
Example
  • Hangers for the Groom and Myself - the lovely ErinBorges at Etsy is creating our hangers. I cannot wait to see what they look like! Once again, I will post a picture of the proof when I get it. Sidenote- I was telling future hubby about the hangers and he looked at me like I was crazy! I tried to explain to him that it was for the pictures and to add a personal touch but he still didn't understand. He just shook his head and laughed. I get that a lot for some reason! lol Oh and if you haven't checked out the socks that Erin makes you definitely need to proceed right to her Etsy page. They are darling! Here is an example of the socks:
How cute would these be for your groom? She even makes socks for father-in-laws that reads- "I'm so happy you walked into my life", socks for the father that reads "By your side every step of the way", and custom messages.
  • Tasting - we had our tasting yesterday and it went better than I ever expected!!! A post will follow with our menu. I am kicking myself because I took my camera but didn't take any pictures during the tasting. Darn it!!!!
  • I HAVE A PASTOR!!!!! The pastor that I contacted last week called me yesterday afternoon to let me know that he had found someone to cover his Saturday night service so that he could marry us. YAY!!! You better believe I marched right into my dad's office and did a 2-3 minute victory dance! Once again, my dad just shook his head and laughed. See, I told you that I get that a lot. lol
And there you have it- my list of accomplishments from yesterday! If only every day could be so productive! I have not forgotten about our weekend trip and my fitting. I was so busy I did not have time to upload pictures so hopefully I will be posting about those two items tomorrow! Sorry for the delay!

Happy Hump Day!!!

My Best Friend's Wedding.....

I know that I promised a recap of the weekend events but I am a little behind so I will hopefully do that tomorrow. Until then, here are some of the pictures from my best friend, Paloma's wedding. She was a stunning bride!!

Sidenote- please excuse my hair! I wasn't very happy with how it turned out and then the rain didn't really help either. :-)

Even though it rained it made for the perfect opportunity to utilize an umbrella in the pictures.

So beautiful!

The bridal party with the bride and groom!

Best friends!

Another picture of the bridal party at Monument Circle

Isn't her veil to die for?!? Absolutely gorgeous!!!
All photos via Bella Pictures

The wedding was absolutely beautiful! The reception took place at the Indiana Roof Ballroom. The venue has a Hispanic villa-esque feel to it so it was perfect for Paloma's wedding reception. And of course, they had chile rellenos which were really, really good!

Speaking of food, we have our tasting tonight! Future hubby and I are kind of food snobs so hopefully the dishes impress! Wish us luck! :-)

Coming up tomorrow- fitting, weekend at French Lick, and the tasting (hopefully)

Fridays Truly are the Best!

I am busting at the seams right now!!!! Guess what I get to do today?!?

GO TO MY FIRST DRESS FITTING!!!!! YAY!!!!

I ordered my wedding day bra from Victoria's Secret on Wednesday and had them rush deliver it so that I could schedule this fitting for today. After work my mom and my maid of honor, Paloma, will come with me for the first fitting. I have my bra, my shoes, and a camera! I am so excited!

The only thing that I am a little bit nervous about is - what if the dress is too small?!? What if they ordered the wrong size dress?!? What if I no longer like my dress?!? I am such a big worry wort, I am always able to find something to be a little nervous about. Haha! Those nerves are tiny compared to the excitement!

And I made a fabulous discovery today!!!! I climbed on the scale only to see that I have lost 10 lbs since my wisdom teeth extraction. That was the one and only one good side to that procedure! Well, and I was off of work pretty much all week. That was nice too! Thanks to that weight loss, I can fit back into my size 3 jeans! YAY!!!! :-) Now I need to maintain!

Lastly (yes, I said lastly because this day doesn't get any better) my parents, future hubby, and I are leaving tomorrow for French Lick! We plan on gambling, playing golf, and going to the spa......AHHHHH, relaxation at its finest!
This is where we will be staying.

The Donald Ross Golf Course that we will be playing.

I plan on taking my laptop since the dogs will be staying at a new pet lodge that has webcam! Future hubby and I always worry about the boys when we are gone. Future hubby is worrying even more this time since we are trying out a new pet lodge. I can't imagine what we will be like when we have kids! :-)

Today is definitely what I needed- a great end to a kind of crappy week! I probably won't have time to post much this weekend so have a wonderful weekend!!!! Happy Friday! I will hopefully have lots of pictures to post next week!

Just Throw Your Hands Up and Laugh....

That is how I feel right now! One would think that non-wedding related stuff might be helpful right now to distract me from the fact that we still have no pastor.......you would think! Let me fill you in on my morning......

I was on my way out the door for work this morning when I got a feeling that I should go check the basement (note: always listen to gut feelings). If you are from the Midwest you know that we had some pretty awful storms last night with a TON of rain. I walked down to the basement and to my relief all I saw was a dry basement. Thank goodness......or so I thought! I listened for the sump pump and something did not sound quite right so I checked. To my horror, I discovered water had flooded the pit of the sump pump to the brim! I thought to myself, "GREAT! Just what I need!" So, I drove like a bat out of hell to a tool rental place to rent a portable pump. On my way I had the plumber on the phone dispatching someone immediately. By the time I got home with the pump water had started to creep out into our basement. When the plumber pulled the old sump pump out water rushed into our basement. We couldn't keep up with the water between the shop vac and the portable pump.

Sooooo.....$450 later we have a brand new sump pump! Future hubby, the plumber, and myself spent the rest of the morning cleaning up the water with a mop and a shop vac. Oh, and many of you maybe thinking- "why doesn't she have a battery back-up?!?" Oh, we definitely HAD (key word....had) a battery back up but it was fried by the storm last night and was out of commission this morning. The plumber is installing a new one of those on Monday. I about choked when I heard the price of the battery backup......$1,150 better keep my basement dry!

All in all I am in good spirits because it could have been a lot worse! If I had not followed my gut feeling we could have been dealing with inches or even feet of water. I still don't have a pastor and I am out some money but there are worse things that could have happened! I just look at it as, I apparently don't have enough adventure in my life right now! Hehe!

Have a great Thursday! One more day until the weekend!

Oh, and 100 days until we are officially married!!!! YAY!!!

What To Do?!?

"Don't sweat the small stuff"

This is something that friends and family have told me during this entire wedding planning process and I have taken it to heart. I feel like I have done a pretty darn good job at not sweating over anything small. I even remind myself that if something doesn't happen it won't be a big deal because I will be the only one who notices.

Well, I have fallen off of my horse and I am struggling to climb back up!

As you know from my recent posts I am trying to find a Lutheran pastor to marry us since my pastor is now being deployed for the next 8 months (see here and here). Let's put it this way- if I were a baseball player I would have just struck out (I am just full of similes and such). So far I am batting a thousand because I have been denied by three different pastors due to scheduling issues, conflicting church services, etc.

I am trying to stay calm but let's face it, a pastor is not a small detail. Future hubby and I can't walk down the aisle and just stare at each other with googly eyes without having someone lead the ceremony (well we could but it would be very awkward and quiet). I have spent the last two days bursting into tears at various times because this is really starting to stress me out. I am starting to run out of pastors to contact. I resorted to contacting a pastor today that I don't even know which isn't unheard of but not what I wanted. He is the Lutheran pastor of a church that I want to start attending so I figured why not!? I have not heard back from him yet but I am just saying prayer after prayer to God asking for help.

My mom keeps reminding me that God has His own plan for us. She said that maybe God is trying to tell me that He wants me to start going to this new church. If this pastor says yes I am definitely taking it as a sign. Even if this pastor says no I will still attend this church.

I know that I have 3 months left but time is a ticking! I am going to try my hardest to put this into God's hands and not stress but human nature has left me as a basket case. So bare with my posting or lack of posting until this situation gets resolved. I hope to have good news to report back to you!

Lots to Do This Week.....

This Thursday will mark the 100 day countdown to our wedding and boy do I still have a lot to do! Here are some of the items that I would like knock out in the next week:
  • First Fitting- I really wanted to do this last Saturday since my MIL was in town but apparently they don't do weekend fittings due to the craziness.
  • Purchase undergarments for dress- obviously need to do this prior to dress fitting
  • Finish BM gifts- I have a couple DIY pieces of their present that I need to finish up and I would love to share but I have a few BM who follow and would hate to ruin the surprise!
  • Purchase GM gifts- I have it narrowed down but really just need to make the purchase.
  • Find a Pastor- hopefully I will receive a positive response from the Pastor that I contacted but if not it will be back to square one.
  • Pick up Wedding Bands- these will hopefully be done this week (so excited).
  • Book Limo Company- enough said.
  • Purchase B-Party Dress- not really necessary to purchase a new dress but since when do I go by necessity?!? Oh, and find cute pair of shoes to go with! :-)
  • Order Cocktail Napkins
These are the major things that I would like to accomplish but we will see. On top of wedding stuff I have 2 more yards of mulch being delivered today to spread.......can't wait! So much for slowly getting back into the game......I just jumped off a speeding freight train to get back into the game! Any major things you have to accomplish this week?!?
Haha! Now I have seen it all.....GM using a Winnebago as their transportation! Photo via Jessica Strickland Photography

Happy Monday!

Back to the Grind....

I'm amongst the living!!!! Well, I think! After my awesome vicodin induced 3-day nap I am feeling much better. It actually wasn't too bad of an experience, believe it or not! The oral surgeon was great and they gave me extra 'laughing gas' to calm the nerves. Let's just say I was out of control when I came to! My mom had a terrible time keeping track of me in the drug store as I wandered (more like speed walked) down every aisle. She would turn her back for one second and I would be gone. I bet this experience makes her glad that she only had one child and that one child is now in her twenty's! She is probably really looking forward to grand children now! haha!

Thank you to everyone who left me such sweet comments! Your comments definitely helped before and after the extraction! You all are awesome!

Okay, since I have been on a wedding hiatus (well, blogging about the wedding, hiatus) I think it is time to jump back into it full force. So, here we go!

I received an email this morning from our Pastor telling me that he is being mobilized on July 8th and will be on active duty for 8 months.......CRAP CRAP CRAP! So, with less than 4 months to go (106 days to be exact) we no longer have a Pastor!

Am I stressing?!? Not really.
Is this thanks to left over vicodin running through my system?!? Probably!

All I know is that the future hubby and I are getting married on August 22, 2009 come hell or high water (enter bridezilla)! So, I will either find a Pastor between now and then or I will convince a friend to get ordained online! My mother would prefer the first option but if push comes to shove then we may have to go with option two...lol!
Hopefully on August 22, 2009 I will have pictures of our Pastor telling future hubby that he 'may now kiss the bride!'

Have you had anything fall through in your wedding planning?!? Or did you have anything fall through as the date came closer?!? Have a great weekend!!!!!

Not So Fun.....

Posts may be a little sparse for the first part of this week because I am getting my wisdom teeth out today! :-(

I am such a BIG BABY!!! I am dreading this so much and just want it to be over with! Well, hopefully I will be back to blogging sooner than later!

Hope you all have a great Monday!

The Big Day

My best friend, Paloma, is getting MARRIED today!!!! YAY!!!

CONGRATULATIONS PALOMA! I LOVE YOU!!!
I will have pictures to post later! Sorry, I am at the hotel room with her so I don't have my camera cord to post any pictures right now but trust me, she is a gorgeous, lovely bride! :-)
Have a great weekend!
